We wanted to watch this musical for the same reason.

I think I was too tired from the meetup yest, I actually fell asleep while Cliff and Sally were singing about being pregnant.

And I didn't realise that Ernst was Mark Richmond until Ange told me over msn. (that's how far we were from the stage)

There was a flyer on our seat with the question:
Would you recommend the musical to your friends?

After watching the show, my answer is:
Why not? Support local productions mah. Otherwise the artistes eat air aa? Plus the musical is not too bad. Just try not to purchase the front row seats unless you want to participate in the musical.

And the artistes really CAN sing.
